BILL OF RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION
BILL OF RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION
BILL OF RIGHTS DAY CELEBRATION

Sat., Dec. 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. in Scottsdale, AZ (and elsewhere nationally).

SPECIAL THIS YEAR!
In conjunction with the “Friend of the Taxpayer” Awards Luncheon (see below)

Spend a little time enjoying what makes America great!

Celebrate your rights.

Join people all over the country who will break bread with their neighbors, and as a group read the Bill of Rights, on the day it was ratified in 1791.

We will read the original Bill of Rights out loud from a parchment copy, and then jointly discuss its health in roundtable style. Is it working? Are our rights intact? What are the threats to the precious rights we hold dear? What are the prospects for the future?

This is the 6th year in a row that Arizonans have gathered to recognize and honor one of the most important concepts ever created. Join us. It's free. You will remember this experience for a long time to come.

The luxurious Scottsdale Plaza Resort is graciously providing the use of their ballroom for this special event:

Sat., Dec. 15, 2007, at 2 p.m.
7200 N. Scottsdale Rd., 480-948-5000
Northwest cor. of Scottsdale Rd. and Indian Bend
Halfway between Shea Blvd. and Camelback Rd.

Joining us again for the Bill of Rights reading will be Dr. Lance Hurley who, in full period dress, will deliver a short speech as Patrick Henry. After the Bill is read aloud from a parchment facsimile, we will have a public discussion to explore the Bill's current health, the challenges freedom faces today, and ways we can help advance the noble causes our Founding Fathers set in motion more than two centuries ago. When we're done, we can retreat to the nearby tavern and keep going.

SPECIAL:
This year, the Bill of Rights reading will be coordinated with the “Friend of the Taxpayer” Awards Luncheon put on by the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers. This honors legislators and local officials who did the most to control government spending, and pokes fun at legislators and officials who voted to misuse taxpayer dollars. The lowest-scoring legislator gets the Vladimir Lenin Prize for Most Socialist Legislator. The keynote speaker at the Taxpayer Awards is former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who cut taxes on income, gasoline, capital gains, and (temporarily) stopped the growth of government in New Mexico. The Arizona Federation of Taxpayers Awards Luncheon is $39 for AFT members, $49 for non-members. AFT is the state chapter of Americans for Prosperity Foundation.

There is no charge to attend the Bill of Rights reading and discussion at 2 p.m..

P.S. Are you already occupied or too far away to join us? Hold your own luncheon! Gather with friends on Sat., Dec. 15, go to lunch, and read the Bill of Rights -- aloud. It's a magical moment, as the words sing out. Take time in your busy schedule to enjoy this reflective pause, and recount the tremendous values these freedoms have brought to you, your family and the world.
